Uit de lockdown; DTM test in juni op de Nürburgring

De DTM heeft eindelijk weer eens positief nieuws kunnen brengen, de toerwagenserie pakt voorzichtig de draad weer op. Net als alle andere raceklasses lag de DTM sinds de wereldwijde uitbraak van het coronavirus stil, maar daar komt volgende maand verandering in. De toerwagenserie test van 8 tot en met 11 juni op de Nürburgring.

Net als alle andere autosportklasses is de DTM druk bezig om een herziene kalender op poten te zetten. Vast staat dat bij de races geen fans en media aanwezig zullen zijn. De toerwagenserie neemt de voorschriften voor social distancing, een beperkte hoeveelheid personen in de paddock en hygiëne in acht. De test op de Nürburgring komt in plaats van de voorbereidingstest die eigenlijk in maart al plaats had moeten vinden.

Marcel Mohaupt, directeur van DTM-organisator ITR: "Met veel geduld en hard werk zijn de voorbereidingen op het DTM-seizoen 2020 in volle gang. We trappen volgende maand af met een test op de Nürburgring. We zijn iedereen van dat circuit ontzettend dankbaar, ze hebben een infrastructuur neergezet waarin het verantwoord en veilig is om te rijden. Dit leidt uiteraard tot een volgende stap. We zijn vol vertrouwen dat we opwindende races kunnen houden in 2020 en dat we spoedig een nieuwe kalender voor dit jaar kunnen presenteren."

Onzekere toekomst

De toekomst van de DTM is hoogst onzeker sinds Audi heeft aangekondigd de toerwagenserie na dit jaar te verlaten. Hierdoor zou BMW als enige merk in de klasse achterblijven, maar ook zij vragen zich hardop af of ze door moeten gaan met de DTM. De Duitse autofabrikant voelt er weinig voor om de DTM alleen te dragen, BMW wil concurrentie om uitgedaagd te worden.

Mooi nieuws het is jammer dat deze klasse teloor gaat, met alleen BMW zou de benaming DTM ook nergens meer op slaan BMW cup zou dan beter uitkomen.
Toerwagen classen zijn altijd leuk om naar te kijken lekker gooien en smijten vaak veel spannender dan bvb F1
