Timo Scheider leidt Audi-dominantie in eerste training

Audi heeft tijdens de eerste vrije training op het Circuit Park Zandvoort een gevoelige tik uitgedeeld aan Mercedes. De auto's van Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich bezette de eerste vier posities op het duinencircuit, onder aanvoering van Timo Scheider.

Scheider reed slechts 22 ronden in de anderhalf uur durende training, maar dat weerhield hem er niet van om de snelste tijd te rijden. Met zijn 1:32.708 was de Duitse Audi-rijder 0.474 seconden sneller dan Martin Tomczyk. Mattias Ekstrom en Edoardo Mortara maakten de top vier compleet voor Audi.

David Coulthard was verrassend de snelste Mercedes-coureur in zijn auto uit 2008. Hij bleef Persson-teamgenoten Christian Vietoris en Renger van der Zande voor. HWA-rijders Jamie Green en Gary Paffett hadden met hun auto's uit 2009 het nakijken bij de rookies en reden de achtste en negende tijd. Kampioenschapsleider Bruno Spengler besloot de top tien.
