René Rast op poleposition in Hockenheim, Frijns op plaats acht

De titelstrijd komt tot een ware apotheose. Réne Rast, leider in de stand, pakte pole posiition en kon zijn directe belager Nico Müller om de titel met een zeer klein verschil van zich afhouden. Beide heren staan op de eerste startrij en tussen de tweede Audi-coureurs zat maar 0.048 verschil. In de stand om de kampioenschap verdedigt Rast een voorsprong van twintig punten en liep met zijn behaalde pole een punt uit. Robin Frijns heeft theorestisch nog kans op het kampioenschap, maar door zijn achtste kwalificatietijd lijkt het zeer onwaarschijnlijk dat de Nederlander nog de titel gaat pakken.

In dit weekend staan er twee races op het programma, straks om 13.30 en zondag om dezelfde tijd. De puntentelling is hetzelfde als in de Formule 1. De winnaar krijgt 25 punten, de tweede plaats is 18 punten, de derde 15 punten en enzovoorts. In de kwalificatie zijn ook punten te verdienen. De polesitter eist drie punten op, de nummer twee mag twee punten bijtellen en de derde plaats pakt het laatste punt.
