Tom Kristensen eenmalig terug als vervanger van Rockenfeller

DTM-veteraan Tom Kristensen maakt komend weekend op de Lausitzring een eenmalige comeback in de toerwagenserie. De Deen neemt bij Audi de honneurs waar voor Mike Rockenfeller, die in de 24 uur van Le Mans zwaar crashte en daar nog van bij moet komen.

Audi-motorsportbaas Wolfgang Ullrich: We beseffen ons dat Mike meedoet voor de titel, maar zijn volledige herstel geniet de prioriteit. Na overleg met de teamdokter heb ik besloten om hem komend weekend rust te geven en ook bij de 24 uur van de Nürburgring komt hij niet in actie.

Kristensen: Ten eerste vind ik het spijtig dat Mike niet zelf kan rijden en ik wens hem een voorspoedige revalidatie. Na twee jaar afwezigheid zal ik het komend weekend zwaar krijgen. Maar toen Audi Sport belde met de vraag of ik ze wilde helpen twijfelde ik geen moment. Ik kijk uit naar het weerzien met oude vrienden en ik zal proberen om Rockenfeller zo goed mogelijk te vervangen.
