Kristensen stunt met snelste tijd in training bij comeback

Tom Kristensen is het racen in een DTM-bolide nog niet verleerd. Dit liet de Deense achtvoudig Le Mans-winnaar vandaag in de eerste vrije training op de Lausitzring zien. Kristensen, die dit weekend de geblesseerde Mike Rockenfeller vervangt, was meteen de snelste coureur en bleef Martin Tomczyk ruim twee honderdsten voor.

Kristensen werd enkele dagen geleden opgeroepen als vervanger voor Rockenfeller, die nog herstellende is van een crash tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans. Zelf stopte Kristensen eind 2009 met het racen in de DTM, maar hij kan het nog altijd. In de eerste training op de Lausitzring was hij met een 1:19.412 bijna drie honderdsten sneller dan Martin Tomczyk.

Timo Scheider zorgde voor een volledige top drie met Audi's door de derde tijd te rijden. De Duitser kwam minder dan zes honderdsten tekort op de tijd van Kristensen. Christian Vietoris was verrassend de snelste Mercedes-rijder met de vierde tijd, gevolgd door Filipe Albuquerque, David Coulthard en Renger van der Zande. De Nederlander, teamgenoot van Vietoris, eindigde als zevende met een achterstand van ruim drie tienden op Kristensen.

Enkele grote namen uit het kampioenschap van dit jaar stonden weer verder naar achteren. Mattias Ekstrom kwam niet verder dan de twaalfde tijd, gevolgd door kampioenschapsleider Bruno Spengler, Jamie Green, Maro Engel en Ralf Schumacher op de zeventiende plaats. Rahel Fery sloot het rijtje af met een achterstand van 1,8 seconden.
