Philip Ellis wint zijn eerste race op Lausitzring

Philip Ellis heeft zijn allereerste DTM-zege op zak. Op de roval van de Lausitzring won in de München geboren coureur voor Formule 2-coureur Liam Lawson. Sheldon van der Linde, broer van kampioenschapsleider Kelvin van der Linde, werd derde. Voormalig Red Bull-coureur Alexander Albon werd vijfde.

Lange tijd reed DTM-veteraan Nico Mueller aan kop in de derde wedstrijd van het seizoen, maar de Zwitser moest op het einde nog zijn verplichte pitstop maken. De leiding kwam hierdoor terug in de handen van Ellis, die uitkomt voor het team van HTP Winward Motorsport. De Brits-Duitse coureur komt dit jaar ook uit in IMSA Sportscar Championship en GT World Challenge America.

Kelvin van der Linde die vierde werd, blijft ruimschoots bovenaan met 42 punten. Liam Lawson stijgt naar de tweede positie met 27 punten. Nico Mueller is derde met 24 punten.

Op zondag is de tweede race op de Lausitzring.
