Van der Linde loopt verder uit in titelstrijd door zege op Zolder

Kelvin van der Linde heeft in zijn Audi zijn tweede zege van 2021 geboekt op het iconische circuit van Zolder in België. Ondanks extra gewicht op zijn bolide, de zogeheten Balance of Performance om het speelveld dichtbij elkaar te houden, troefde de Zuid-Afrikaan iedereen af in de strijd om de overwinning.

Teamgenoot Mike Rockenfeller maakte het feestje voor Team Abt Sportsline compleet door als tweede te eindigen. Red Bull-testcoureur Alexander Albon pakte voor de tweede keer dit seizoen een podium met een derde plaats. De Thai rijdt achter het stuur van een Ferrari in de kleuren van AlphaTauri.

Van der Linde heeft nu 95 punten. Nummer twee in de stand, Liam Lawson, die ook uitkomt in de Formule 2, behaalde geen punten. Dat betekent dat Van der Linde nu 32 punten voorsprong heeft. Albon blijft op de vijfde positie, maar het gat naar de derde plek is nog maar acht punten.

Zondagmiddag is de tweede race op Zolder. De wedstrijd duurt 60 minuten plus drie rondes. Alle rijders zijn hierin verplicht om een pitstop te maken.
