Wittmann wint eerste wedstrijd op Assen, Lawson neemt leiding over in stand

Marco Wittmann behaalt zijn tweede overwinning van het seizoen op het Nederlandse circuit van Assen, ondanks een tijdstraf van vijf seconden voor contact met Lawson. Gastrijder Mirko Bortolotti had een vermakelijk gevecht met Liam Lawson om P2 en eindigde uiteindelijk voor de Nieuw-Zeelander. Lawson, die ook uitkomt in de Formule 2, werd derde en neemt de leiding in het rijdersklassement over van Kelvin van der Linde, die tot het laatste moment aan de kop reed. Echter, de Zuid-Afrikaan moest nog naar binnen voor een verplichte stop en viel hierdoor buiten de punten en moest genoegen nemen met een twaalfde eindklassering.

Met Maximilian Götz met de Mercedes-AMG en Christian Klien met McLaren op de vierde en vijfde plaats waren in de DTM 2021 voor het eerst vijf verschillende merken vertegenwoordigd in de top vijf. Bovendien behaalden Sophia Flörsch met de ABT Audi en Esmee Hawey met de T3 Lamborghini hun eerste DTM-kampioenschapspunten.

Zondagmiddag staat de tweede race op Assen op het programma. De uitzending op Ziggo Sport begint om 13.15.
