Mortara wint DTM-evenement München, Van der Zande derde

Edoardo Mortara heeft zoch verrassend tot de winnaar van het DTM-evenement in München mogen kronen. De Italiaan, die bezig is aan zijn eerste jaar in de Duitse toerwagenklasse, was in de finale te sterk voor Bruno Spengler. Renger van der Zande eindigde knap als derde.

Renger van der Zande was bezig aan een indrukwekkende dag. De Nederlander van Mercedes was onder andere Gary Paffett en David Coulthard te snel af, maar moest het in de halve finale afleggen tegen Spengler. De eerste ronde legde Van der Zande nog als snelste af, maar bij de pitstops ging het mis. De Nederlander stopte bij de crew van Spengler en andersom stopte de Canadees bij de crew van Van der Zande. Uiteindelijk was Spengler na een foutje van Van der Zande de sterkste.

In de finale mocht hij het opnemen tegen de beste man van Audi, Edoardo Mortara. Hij versloeg eerder op de dag onder andere al Mattias Ekstrom en Mike Rockenfeller. De eerste ronde legde Spengler nog een honderdste sneller af, maar in de tweede ronde zette de Audi-coureur om in een voorsprong van drie tienden.

Vandaag was de strijd tussen de twee merken, Mercedes en Audi. Morgen wordt er verder gestreden in München.
