Race 1 (zaterdag): Lucas Auer wint eerste race, Bortolotti ongelukkig

RACE 1: ZATERDAG

Lucas Auer is de eerste racewinnaar van het DTM-seizoen 2022. In de Algarve op het circuit van Portimão won de Oostenrijker met Mercedes-AMG van de Duitser Luca Stolz in de collega Mercedes van HRT. De Italiaan Mirko Bortolotti met de GRT Lamborghini. Kelvin van der Linde (RSA, Team ABT Sportsline) eindigde als best geplaatste Audi-coureur, de Noor Dennis Olsen eindigde op de vijfde plaats met SSR Performance bij zijn DTM-debuut met Porsche. De best geplaatste BMW-coureur was Sheldon van der Linde van Schubert Motorsport, die zevende werd.

"Ik ben dolgelukkig", verheugde racewinnaar Auer zich. “We hadden een goede strategie, dat was de sleutel vandaag. Ik had een beetje geluk bij de herstart, maar dat is racen'', die Auer na 21 ronden geprofiteerd had van een herstart.

Lange tijd zag Bortolotti er veilig uit voor de overwinning. De Italiaan had 's ochtends de pole position opgeëist met het Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini en voerde ook lange tijd het veld aan in de race totdat de wedstrijd werd onderbroken en de safety car. Bij de herstart had Bortolotti moeite en moest hij Auer, Stolz en Maro Engel voor laten hgaan. Bortolotti: “Bij de herstart had ik simpelweg geen vermogen. Ik heb geen idee wat er is gebeurd, ik heb dat nooit eerder gehad."
