Martin Tomczyk snelste tijdens warm up in Oschersleben

Martin Tomczyk heeft vanochtend laten zien dat hij zeker de snelheid heeft om vandaag tijdens de race punten te scoren. De coureur van Audi, leider in het kampioenschap, kwam in de kwalificatie niet verder dan de veertiende plaats, maar was de snelste rijder in de warm up. Audi-collega's Mattias Ekstrom en Filipe Albuquerque volgden.

Tomczyk reed de gehele sessie in de top zes rond en ging met een 1:23.551 in de allerlaatste minuut naar de eerste stek. Daarmee versloeg hij Mattias Ekstrom met slechts 0.023 seconden, terwijl Albuquerque op de derde plaats 0.037 seconden tekort kwam. Oook Christian Vietoris kon verrassend aanhaken bij de snelle Audi-coureurs, want hij kwam met de vierde tijd nog maar 0.040 seconden tekort op de snelste tijd.

David Coulthard volgde met de vijfde tijd, terwijl Ralf Schumacher de snelste rijder was van Mercedes' topteam HWA. Zijn teamgenoten Bruno Spengler, Jamie Green en Gary Paffett kwamen niet verder dan respectievelijk de achtste, veertiende en vijftiende tijd. Polesitter Miguel Molina eindigde de warm up als zevende en Timo Scheider en Renger van der Zande sloten de top tien af.
