Martin Tomczyk zoekt nieuwe uitdaging en vertrekt bij Audi

Martin Tomczyk en Audi gaan uit elkaar. De Duitser won dit jaar de titel in de DTM en dat blijkt nu het klapstuk en het einde van een elfjarige samenwerking met de Duitse autofabrikant. Tomczyk zoekt een nieuwe uitdaging en hij zou in beeld zijn bij BMW, dat in 2012 terugkeert in de DTM.

Na elf jaar samen met Audi heb ik dit jaar het kampioenschap op mijn naam geschreven, begint de 29-jarige coureur. Ik wist me continu gesteund door de leiding van Audi Sport en daarom ben ik blij dat ik dat vertrouwen dit jaar terug heb kunnen betalen. Ondanks dit succes heb ik na lang wikken en wegen besloten om een nieuwe uitdaging aan te gaan. Ik wil iedereen bij Audi Sport bedanken voor al die jaren die een speciale plek in mijn hart krijgen.

Audi-motorsportbaas Wolfgang Ulrich: We betreuren dat Martin na zijn meest succesvolle jaar in de DTM op zoek gaat naar een nieuwe uitdaging. Ik kan wel begrip opbrengen voor het feit dat hij na elf jaar aan iets nieuws toe is. Persoonlijk deed het me deugd dat hij zijn criticasters dit jaar de mond heeft gesnoerd. Ik heb altijd prettig met Martin samengewerkt en ik wens hem het beste voor de toekomst.
