Edoardo Mortara bezorgt Audi eerste zege van 2012

Na Mercedes en BMW heeft nu ook Audi de eerste overwinning van dit jaar in de DTM binnen. Edoardo Mortara zette zijn eerste pole position op de Red Bull Ring om in zijn eerste zege in de toerwagenklasse. Met Martin Tomczyk en Gary Paffett op plaatsen twee en drie bestond het podium uit drie merken.

Mortara werd de hele race opgejaagd door Tomczyk en Paffett. Na de laatste stops mocht het tweetal even ruiken aan de leiding, maar Mortara behield zijn koppositie en bezweek niet onder de druk. Titelkandidaat Bruno Spengler gaf op na rondenlang aanmodderen met een beschadigde BMW na een touché in de eerste ronde. De chaotische openingsronde eiste ook Adrien Tambay, Dirk Werner, Christian Vietoris en Andy Priaulx als slachtoffers.
