DTM lanceert binnen drie jaar serie in Verenigde Staten

De DTM is flink aan het uitbreiden. Nadat ze eerder de handen ineen sloegen met het Japanse Super GT-kampioenschap gaat de toerwagenserie nu ook een samenwerking aan met de organisaties van de Amerikaanse Grand-Am en NASCAR. De bedoeling is om DTM America in 2015 of 2016 te lanceren.

Grand-Am-baas Ed Bennett legt uit: "Het doel is om in 2015 of 2016 te starten met de klasse. De strategie is in grote lijnen bepaald. Voor nu is het belangrijk dat we de boodschap verspreiden, dit delen met de wereld en publieke belangstelling in Noord-Amerika wekken. We kunnen bevestigen dat alle puzzelstukjes op hun plek liggen."

Jens Marquardt, motorsportdirecteur bij BMW, verkondigde: "We staan aan de vooravond van een opwindend raceplatform in de Verenigde Staten." En Wolfgang Durheimer van Audi voegt toe: "De consequentie van deze stappen van DTM is dat we in de toekomst de A5 ook in Azië en in Noord-Amerika tentoon kunnen spreiden. Voor een globaal actief bedrijf als Audi is dat zeer interessant."
