DRS en option tyres vanaf dit seizoen in de DTM

Het Drag Reduction System is overgewaaid van de Formule 1 naar de DTM. De toerwagenserie maakt dit seizoen voor het eerst gebruik van de beweegbare achtervleugel, zo meldde de organisatie. Tevens introduceert de klasse samen met bandenleverancier Hankook een tweede compound, de option tyre oftewel een zacht alternatief voor de gebruikelijke hardere band.

Dit alles om inhalen te bevorderen en de mogelijkheden voor verschillende strategieën uit te breiden. Hans Werner Aufrecht van organisator ITR: "In de afgelopen tien jaar is mijn gevoel voorafgaand aan een nieuw DTM-seizoen nog nooit zo goed geweest als nu. De nieuwe regels misten in 2012 hun uitwerking niet, ze hadden het beoogde effect. De titel voor BMW als nieuwkomer bewijst dat. We blijven werken om de kosten te reduceren en het spektakel te vergroten. Samen met de bond en de autofabrikanten hebben we nieuwe maatregelen getroffen, zoals de invoering van option tyres en DRS. De Formule 1 heeft bewezen hoe goed die initiatieven werken."
