Ekstrom ziet Paffett als titelkandidaat

Mattias Ekström denkt dat Gary Paffett serieus mee gaat doen voor de titel in de DTM. De Engelsman mag dan wel rijden in een auto van Mercedes van vorig jaar, maar volgens Audi-coureur Ekström mag de McLaren-testcoureur niet uitgevlakt worden. Het zal mij niet verrassen als Gary gewoon het hele jaar bovenin meedoet en meevecht om de overwinningen.

De Zweed Ekström won zelf de titel in 2004. Een jaar later pakte Paffett die titel af. Vorig jaar kon Ekström geen potten breken, maar hij is vastbesloten om dit jaar weer een gooi naar de titel te doen. Ik heb me heel goed voorbereid en ik ben heel optimistisch voor mijn kansen dit jaar. als we het als team voor elkaar krijgen en het beste in elkaar naar boven halen, dan maak ik een goede kans.

De 28-jarige Audi-coureur vervolgt: Maar in de DTM kan iedereen winnen, dat maakt deze klasse zo speciaal. Het wordt een zwaar seizoen en ik verwacht dat Gary zeker snel zal zijn dit jaar. Hoe snel, dat moeten we afwachten. Maar hij is een coureur die zeker in de DTM thuis hoort.
