Frank Biela neemt plaats Kristensen in

Tom Kristensen is toch niet fit genoeg om komend weekend aan de DTM-race op het circuit van Oschersleben deel te nemen. Zijn plaats bij Audi wordt ingenomen door Frank Biela, de DTM-kampioen van 1991 en viervoudig winnaar van de 24 uur van Le Mans.

Kristensen was in de eerste ronde bij de openingsrace op de Hockenheimring betrokken bij een zware crash. De Deen kon zonder al te ernstige verwondingen de auto verlaten, maar moest wel twee dagen in het ziekenhuis verblijven. Sindsdien gaat het veel beter met de 39-jarige coureur, maar Audi heeft na overleg besloten dat het verstandiger is dat Kristensen nog wat rust neemt.

Motorsport directeur van Audi, Wolfgang Ullrich: Onze prioriteit ligt altijd bij de gezondheid van onze coureurs. Wij willen Tom de kans geven om volledig te herstellen voordat hij weer achter het stuur van een DTM-auto klimt. Gezien de hevigheid van zijn crash heeft dat simpelweg gewoon tijd nodig.

Biela is niet de enige vervanger die komend weekend aan de start verschijnt. Audi-coureur Alexandre Premat was ook betrokken bij dat ongeluk met Kristensen en is eveneens niet in staat om in Oschersleben te racen. Marco Werner neemt zijn plaats in.
