Timo Scheider over een rondje Mugello

Aanstaande zondag mogen de DTM-coureurs na een pauze van drie weken weer aan de slag. Gastheer van de zesde race van het seizoen is dan het Italiaanse circuit Mugello. Bekend van de MotoGP, maar nooit eerder reisde de DTM af naar die baan. Ook nieuw voor Audi-coureur Timo Scheider dus, die toch probeert de geheimen van Mugello te ontrafelen.

Ik vind het altijd wel leuk hoor, al die nieuwe circuits, begint de Duitser. Mugello heeft al veel lovende woorden gehad en ik kan niet wachten om er zelf over te racen. Er zijn veel snelle bochtencombinaties en dat vinden coureurs altijd wel leuk. Ik leer die nieuwe circuits meestal snel, hopelijk is dat dit weekend ook zo.

Het is een beetje een heuvelachtig circuit en dat geeft altijd een extra uitdaging voor de coureurs. Zandvoort en Brands Hatch hebben dat ook en dat levert toch een grotere kick. Mugello is het langste circuit van de kalender en dat maakt de kwalificatie extra lastig. Een foutloze ronde is al bijna onmogelijk, zeker op een lange baan.

Het is een veeleisend circuit, dat hebben we wel ondervonden tijdens de test voor het seizoen. Je voelt hier echt het effect van de aerodynamica en er zijn veel snelle bochten, waarvan sommige blind zijn. Alles moet hier perfect zijn om een goede race af te leveren. Ik ga extra mijn best doen, want mijn schoonfamilie komt uit Italië, aldus Scheider.
