Ekstrom verwacht geen hulp van Tomczyk

Het team van Audi heeft een luxeprobleem. Twee coureurs op de eerste twee plekken in het DTM-kampioenschap. Op Zandvoort liet de Duitse autofabrikant al zien dat het er alles aan zal doen om de titel in de wacht te slepen, zelfs het manipuleren van uitslagen door teamorders. Maar kampioenschapleider Mattias Ekstrom verwacht niet dat nummer twee Martin Tomczyk aan de kant zal gaan.

Sterker nog, de Zweed wil het liefst in een eerlijk gevecht van zijn teamgenoot winnen. Ekstrom: We zijn allebei in de positie om de titel te winnen en zullen ook tegen elkaar strijden om het kampioenschap voor Audi binnen te halen. Deze titel zal niet beslist worden door de teamleiding. Als twee coureurs van hetzelfde merk bovenaan staan steun ik absoluut de aanpak om dan niet punten van elkaar te stelen.

Als Martin als beste boven komt drijven, dan heb ik daar vrede mee. En hij zal hetzelfde hebben als ik de titel in de wacht sleep. Ik zal gelukkig zijn, of hij nu kampioen wordt of ik. Voorlopig sta ik nog aan de leiding. Er zijn nog wel dertig punten te halen, maar ik sta er goed voor en heb veel vertrouwen.
