Beitske Visser doet volgende week mee aan de 24 Uur van Le Mans. De 25-jarige coureur uit Dronten heeft een plek gekregen in het team van Richard Mille Racing. Visser vormt samen met de Colombiaanse Tatiana Calderón en Sophia Flörsch uit Duitsland het vrouwelijke rijderstrio van het Franse team dat uitkomt in de LMP2-categorie.

"Heel mooi om in een van de grootste wedstrijden ter wereld te gaan racen", schrijft Visser op Twitter. De Flevolandse deed de afgelopen weken al wat ervaring op in het langeafstandsracen, in de Europese Le Mans Series. Nu gaat ze ook de roemruchte 24 Uur rijden. Calderón en Flörsch stonden al op de voorlopige startlijst, Visser komt daar nu bij. De Nederlandse maakte in het verleden een tijdje deel uit van het opleidingsprogramma van Red Bull.

Beitske Visser doet volgende week mee aan de 24 Uur van Le Mans

Visser eindigde vorig jaar als tweede in de W Series, de nieuwe raceklasse voor vrouwen. Vanwege de coronacrisis werd dit seizoen van de W Series geschrapt. De vrouwen zouden enkele races op hetzelfde circuit en in hetzelfde weekeinde rijden als de Formule 1-coureurs.

De 88e editie van de 24 Uur van Le Mans wordt op 19 en 20 september zonder publiek verreden. Normaal gesproken komen er zo'n 250.000 fans naar het Circuit de la Sarthe.

Ben benieuwd wat een vrouwen team kan laten zien tegenover een mannelijk veld. En of de verschillen daadwerkelijk groter zijn. We zullen het zien.
