Van Uitert begint seizoen met podiumfinish: "Goed resultaat voor het kampioenschap"

Gisteren werd het European Le Mans Series-seizoen afgetrapt met de 4 uur van Barcelona in Spanje. De wedstrijd kende een opvallende winnaar en er was tevens Nederlands succes. De wagen van Panis Racing met startnummer 65 werd tweede in de LMP2 Pro-klasse en dat stemde Job van Uitert tevreden.

Van Uitert deelt dit jaar zijn Panis-bolide met zijn landgenoot Tijmen van der Helm en Manuel Maldonado. Op het circuit van Barcelona kwam de equipe na 4 uur racen als vijfde over de streep. Hiermee werden ze tweede in de LMP2 Pro-klasse. De zege ging in Barcelona naar een opvallend team, namelijk de LMP2 Am-inschrijving van het Racing Team Turkey.

Goed resultaat

Van Uitert en zijn collega's reden een solide race wat dus resulteerde in een podiumplaats in hun klasse. Het was aanleiding voor tevredenheid en Van Uitert sprak dat ook uit in een persbericht: "Het was geen foutloze race van onze kant, maar dit is wel een goed resultaat voor het kampioenschap in de LMP2 Pro-klasse. Deze tweede plaats is veel punten waard en uiteindelijk gaat het erom wie het meest constant kan scoren. Onder de streep ben ik heel tevreden met deze eindklassering."

Probleempjes

De race op het circuit van Barcelona liep dus niet geheel vlekkeloos van Van Uitert, Maldonado en Van der Helm, maar een podiumplaats geeft de burger moed. Van Uitert: "We hebben veel probleempjes gehad, zoals bijvoorbeeld de doorrijstraf. Dat is ons resultaat natuurlijk niet ten goede gekomen. Voor de laatste stint kozen we ervoor om de banden te dubbelstinten. Veel van onze concurrenten hebben voor de laatste stint hun beide linkerbanden vervangen en dat heb ik helaas wel gemerkt. Ik had er flink nadeel van dat ik op ouder rubber reed."
