Manor contracteert Leimer als reservecoureur

Manor F1 Team heeft Fabio Leimer voor de rest van 2015 vastgelegd als reservecoureur. De 26-jarige Zwitser won in 2013 de GP2-titel, maar is daarna wat van de radar verdwenen. Manor zal hem via enkele vrijdagtrainingen klaar stomen voor het geval dat hij in moet vallen.

Teambaas John Booth: "Het is ons een genoegen om Fabio binnen het team te verwelkomen. We houden de rijders in de opstapklasses en hun potentie om de stap naar de Formule 1 te maken altijd scherp in de gaten. Fabio staat al jaren prominent op dat lijstje. Het doet ons deugd om hem deze kans te bieden, want hij is een getalenteerde coureur die dit verdient."

Leimer: "Ik ben opgewonden over deze mogelijkheid en kan mijn dankbaarheid richting Manor dan ook niet genoeg benadrukken. Ik kan niet wachten om de auto in vrije trainingen bij bepaalde Grands Prix te besturen, maar ook naast de baan zal ik veel tijd doorbrengen met de engineers. Dit is een grote stap voor mij en ik sta te popelen om het vertrouwen in mij terug te betalen."
