Vasseur gelooft in toptalent Ocon

Esteban Ocon werd afgelopen woensdag als officiële reservecoureur van het Renault Formule 1-team gepresenteerd. De 19-jarige Fransman die in 2014 de Formule 3 titel won door onder andere Max Verstappen te verslaan, geldt als een groot talent. Frederic Vasseur, de nieuwe racedirecteur van Renault, staat dan ook volledig achter de keuze voor Ocon. Vasseur kent Ocon van afgelopen seizoen, toen de Fransman namens ART Grand Prix in de GP3 uitkwam en kampioen werd. 

Ocon geldt als een hele constante rijder. In 2015 pakte hij de GP3 titel mede vanwege zijn consistentie: Ocon won slechts een race, maar stond wel veertien races op het podium. Vasseur heeft hoge verwachtingen van Ocon: "Esteban versloeg Max Verstappen in 2014 in de Formule 3 en werd afgelopen seizoen kampioen in mijn auto. Samen met Max Verstappen geldt hij als een van de toptalenten van de afgelopen jaren. Hij zal een mooi jaar tegemoet gaan bij Renault. We willen Mercedes en Genii bedanken voor hun steun. Ocon wordt gesteund door Mercedes en we willen ze bedanken voor deze mogelijkheid om Ocon voor ons te laten rijden."

    Stel dat Renault hem eind 2016 het zitje naast Magnussen aanbiedt voor 2017, zou MB hem die kans ontzeggen?.. Waarschijnlijk niet (voor een paar miljoen)

      Ik denk het wel. Ondanks het feit dat hij 2 kampioenstitels heeft, waarvan er 1 in dezelfde klasse is geweest waar Max Verstappen reed, is zijn ontwikkeling niet zo snel gegaan als die van Max In 2017 heeft Max 2 seizoenen F1 erop zitten, en zal Ocon zijn eerste F1 race dan paas beginnen. Eind 2017 weten we dan pas hoe Ocon er echt voor staat.

    Net als Sainz, heeft Ocon ook de behoefte om Max als graadmeter aan te wijzen.

    “I think [Verstappen] performed superbly on his F1 debut,” Ocon told F1i at the Renault F1 launch. “I was truly impressed with what he achieved at such a young age.

    “That makes me even prouder to have beaten him in F3. He is a real tough racer and I look forward to joining him on track in the near future.”

    Ja Esteban, jij werd kampioen in de F3 in 2014, echter je vergeet er nog even bij te vermelden dat Max de meeste overwinningen op zijn naam had staan, de meeste pech had over het seizoen wegens materiaalproblemen, de meeste gridpenalties kreeg vanwege het verwisselen van een motor in het seizoen, waardoor hij 3 races 10 gridplaatsen straf kreeg....en dit allemaal op het moment dat de belangrijkste punten werden verdeelt.

    Ook vergeet je hier nog te vermelden dat dit het 1e seizoen van Max betrof in de autosport ;) Niettemin...ik ben ook fan van Ocon...fantastisch coureur.

    Ik zie Ocon als de nieuwe Prost - berekenend in zijn rijden
    Ik zie Max als de nieuwe Senna - agressief in zijn rijden en fantastisch om te zien

    Max won wel meer races dat jaar ondanks dat Max meer pech had en zelf nog meer races had kunnen winnen.

    Ocon viel geen enkele keer uit met technische problemen en reed bij het meervoudig kampioensteam Prema, Max reed bij Van Amersfoort die tot Max er reed nog geen race hadden gewonnen in het EK.

      Veel meer races is wat overdreven, 9 om 10 zeges, ze maakten het kampioenschap wel, en het veld van 2014 schatte ik ook veel hoger in dan 2015, ,


      Tuurlijk zat Ocon bij het beste team maar had ook teamgenoten die beter waren dan de teamgenoten van Max, bij Ocon zullen er ook punten zijn afgepakt,

      En van Amersfoort had helemaal geen slecht team lieten zich afgelopen jaar ook weer zien, +ze hadden VW motoren die vooral in de regen beter werden geacht dan de Mercedes motoren,

      Niet dat ik dat wil afdoen aan de prestaties van Max, maar Ocon is ook een super talent, meer van het type Prost , ik kijk er naar uit als ze weer de strijd met elkaar aankunnen :)

      klopt helemaal max maakte veel meer indruk dan ocon, maar een kampioens auto maakt je niet automatisch kampioen. Ocon heeft toen ook mooie dingen laten zien.

    Was een ontzettend leuk jaar Max in de formule 3. Heeft in zijn uppie van Amersfoort weer teruggezet op de kaart nadat het team wat mindere jaren had. Ocon had met prema team de betere auto. Max had toen veel materiaal pech waardoor hij gridstraffen kreeg. In het begin had hij al een te grote achterstand ook door gebrek aan ervaring. Was leuk toen Max ineens voor Red Bull ging rijden. Wat was Ocon jaloers, maar ach dat is menselijk voor zo'n jonge gast. Nu is hij trots dat hij tegen Max heeft gereden. Hoop dat hij samen met van Doorne snel weer tegen Max kan rijden.

    Ik ook. Hij heeft als eerstejaars F3 piloot ondermeer Max Verstappen verslagen, die aanzien wordt als het grootste F1 talent sinds Ayrton Senna.
    En vorig jaar was hij de beste in de GP3.
    Steek hem in een Mercedes en hij maakt het Hamilton een stuk lastiger dan Rosberg nu doet.
