Palmer spreekt van 'niet optimale' voorbereiding op debuutseizoen

Renault nam in december het armlastige Lotus over en keert dit seizoen terug als volwaardig fabrieksteam in de Formule 1. De Brits-Franse renstal kende echter geen optimale voorbereiding op het nieuwe seizoen. Debutant Jolyon Palmer had daar afgelopen week het meeste last van en spreekt van een niet optimale voorbereiding op zijn debuutseizoen in de Formule 1.

Palmer reed over drie testdagen nog geen tweehonderd ronden en ook zijn laatste dag verliep niet vlekkeloos. Teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen reed meer dan vijfhonderd ronden, verdeeld over vier testdagen. Palmer: "Het is niet heel best gegaan. Ik heb een fors aantal minder ronden kunnen rijden dan Magnussen. Niet optimaal wanneer je bedenkt dat we over minder dan twee weken al aan de bak moeten in Melbourne. Dit is niet wat je wilt als debutant."

Ondanks de problemen denkt Palmer dat Renault er redelijk goed voor staat. De data die Kevin Magnussen verzamelt heeft is van cruciaal belang, weet ook Palmer: "De auto voelt in de basis goed aan, we blijven hard werken om te verbeteren. Gelukkig heeft Magnussen veel data kunnen vergaren en dat helpt ons de auto beter te begrijpen. Het scheelt dat ik vorig jaar al veel kilometers heb kunnen maken in vrije trainingen, ik start niet helemaal als groentje wanneer we in Melbourne aankomen."

teamgenoot magnussen reed meer dan het dubbel aantal ronden, MET HETZELFDE MATERIAAL. Waaraan ligt het dan? Just ja, aan.............

Na dit seizoen Palmer eruit en Stoffel erin (Indien ook voor hem geen plek is bij McLaren). De combinatie Magnussen/Stoffel kan in potentie zeer sterk zijn.
