Red Bull verwacht upgrade Renault-motor in Canada

Het team van Red Bull Racing presteerde in Australië prima met Daniel Ricciardo. De thuisrijder scoorde een vierde plaats en had zelfs een tijdje zicht op het podium. Daniil Kvyat haalde de start niet voor de tweede jaar op rij, maar binnen Red Bull Racing heerst optimisme aangaande de komende races.

Op motorenvlak verwacht Daniel Ricciard vanaf de Grand Prix van Canada, de zevende race van het seizoen, een upgrade te ontvangen van motorleverancier Renault. Renault verwacht dat de motor een halve seconde tijdwinst oplevert, op basis van de data die tijdens het testen naar voren is gekomen.

In gesprek met Autosport laat Ricciardo het volgende weten over de prestaties van de motor in vergelijking met vorig jaar: "De motor is zeker een verbetering, maar het is geen enorme stap voorwaarts. Om een enorme stap te voelen moet er zeker 100 PK bij. We hebben al zoveel vermogen dat een kleine update nauwelijks voelbaar is. Wel moet ik zeggen dat de motor het beter doet aan het einde van een recht stuk, het lijkt alsof daar een behoorlijke stap is gezet door de jongens van Renault."

Ricciardo laat verder weten uit te kijken naar de upgrade van Renault. De sympathieke Australiër hoopt dat hij motor een grotere stap is dan de concurrentie. Ricciardo krijgt bijval van teambaas Christian Horner over de progressie die Renault heeft geboekt ten opzichte van vorig jaar: "Er is absoluut een stap gezet deze winter met de motor. Er is nog veel werk te doen, maar de motor doet het nu al beter in de races dan vorig jaar het geval was. Hopelijk geeft dit Renault voldoening voor hun werk en gaan we samen aan de slag om de motor beter te maken."

Een halve seconde is de verwachting, maar dit moeten we eerst nog maar eens zien.
Ook nog maar de vraag of de motor dan wel weer betrouwbaar genoeg is.
Canada is bovendien nog ver weg, we zullen zien.

Een halve seconde, dat is nogal wat. Netjes hoor. Dat betekent dus ook dat Red Bull naar alle waarschijnlijkheid STR voorbij zal streven.

Ik ben eigenlijk meer benieuwd wat Red Bull volgend jaar doet. Ze eindigen dit jaar gewoon als derde team achter Mercedes en Ferrari en denk dat niemand daaraan twijfelt.
De vraag is waar rijden ze volgend jaar mee, gaan ze eigen motor ontwikkelen of gaan ze met Aston Martin rijden wat op zich logisch is maar Mercedes wil natuurlijk niet dat zij met Aston Martin weer x aantal keer wereldkampioen worden aangezien Aston Martin voor een gedeelte van Mercedes is.

  ahum, aston martin gaat GEEN motor maken voor de f1, ze verbinden hooguit hun naam ergens aan.
  Red Bull blijft gewoon met de renault rijden tenzij er een hele goede klanten motor toegevoegd gaat worden.
  Zeker nu ze alweer hebben laten zien dat hun chassis verreweg het beste is van het hele veld zal zowel ferrari en mercedes niet gaan leveren.
  Honda is nog steeds geen verbetering dus het gaat gewoon Renault blijven

  1 ding is zeker, een eigen motor ontwikkelen wordt het niet. Hierover heeft Mateschitz zich recentelijk al uitgelaten.De investeringen die dat vereist is zelfs voor RedBull te gortig.

  Dat weet je nog niet Darlos, pas als de richtlijnen voor 2017 definitief zijn zal Red Bull zijn plan trekken.
  Ook een Red Bull motor, in wat voor vorm dan ook sluit ik dan niet uit.
