Magnussen weer in Q2, Palmer achttiende

Voor het team van Renault viel er in de kwalificatie op Silverstone weinig eer te behalen, De RS16 is niet geschikt voor de snelle en vloeiende bochten. Magnussen wist nog net het tweede deel van de kwalificatie te halen, terwijl Jolyon Palmer de banden niet aan de praat kreeg en als achttiende zal starten. Opvallend was dat beide Renault-coureurs een snelle ronde geschrapt zagen worden vanwege het niet respecteren van de track limits.

Voor Magnussen was het nog even spannend of Q2 gestart mocht worden, aangezien de Deen in zijn laatste snelle ronde meerdere keren de track limits overschreed. Magnussen laat het volgende weten: "In mijn eerste run werd mijn tijd geschrapt. De tweede run was ook op het randje, maar ik ging er niet overheen. We hebben het maximale eruit gehaald. Hopelijk kunnen we morgen een goede race rijden."

Ook Jolyon Palmer zag een van zijn snelste tijden geschrapt worden, maar de thuisrijder was simpelweg te langzaam om Q2 te halen: "De kwalificatie verliep niet naar wens. Het was lastig om de banden werkend te krijgen. Dat is jammer, want ik voelde me prima in de auto. Ik had te weinig grip om er echt voor te gaan en daarmee was het klaar."

Palmer is niet goed genoeg voor Formule 1, maar Magnussen doet het niet veel beter.
Werd vorige race ook verslagen door Palmer en hier was Magnussen nog geen 2 tienden sneller wat op Silverstone heel weinig is.
