Renault ziet finish niet op Silverstone

De snelheid van de Renault RS16 is om dit moment niet goed genoeg om punten te scoren. De Franse renstal heeft een gekke race om regen nodig om aanspraak te maken op een plek bij de eerste tien. In Silverstone was het nat, maar beide coureurs konden geen potten breken en vielen uit met een probleem aan de versnellingsbak.

Voor debutant en thuisrijder Jolyon Palmer verliep de race zelfs dramatisch. De Brit startte als achttiende en bij zijn bandenwissel van intermediates naar medium banden vergaten de monteurs de rechterachterband te monteren, waardoor Palmer meer dan een minuut stil stond. Als klap op de vuurpijl volgde er ook nog een stop and go penalty. Toen de versnellingsbak ook nog begon te haperen was het klaar voor Palmer.

"Ik had me heel wat anders voorgesteld van mijn thuisrace. Tot de kwalificatie ging het best wel goed, maar daarna was mijn geluk op. Voor de wissel naar de droogweerbanden ging het goed en liep ik weg bij mijn teamgenoot en kon ik Grosjean bijhalen. Helaas ging het mis bij de stop, kreeg ik nog een straf en later kapte de versnellingsbak ermee. Een zeer teleurstellend resultaat in mijn thuisrace", laat Palmer optekenen.

Voor Kevin Magnussen verliep de race niet veel beter: "De snelheid was er vandaag niet, we konden niets uitrichten. Toen de versnellingsbak begon te haperen besloten we maar om te stoppen."
