Renault staat 'grote uitdaging' te wachten in Hongarije

De terugkeer van Renault als fabrieksteam in de Formule 1 verloopt nog niet voorspoedig. Het Franse automerk kent een moeizaam seizoen met slechts één puntenfinish, en ook Hongarije zal niet gemakkelijk worden.

Tijdens de Grand Prix van Monaco ging het ronduit slecht met Renault. De auto gedroeg zich vreemd op de kerbstones en in langzame bochten. Dat belooft weinig goeds voor de races in Hongarije. Toch ziet teambaas Frederic Vasseur het weekend rooskleurig in. "Tijdens de test op Silverstone hebben we veel progressie geboekt. Daarnaast hebben we in Jolyon Palmer en Kevin Magnussen twee zeer gemotiveerde coureurs na de teleurstellend verlopen Grand Prix van Engeland. Ik zie geen enkele reden dat we het niet goed kunnen doen."

Niet iedereen binnen het team is het helemaal met Vasseur eens. Managing director Cyril Abiteboul gaf eerder al aan dat de race in Hongarije een grote uitdaging wordt. "We kijken uit naar Boedapest, maar weten dat de uitdaging groot wordt. Langzame, bochtige circuits liggen ons niet echt, maar elke geleerde les geeft ons informatie voor de toekomst."

Respect voor Vasseur. Hij blijft zich positief uitlaten. Een goede 'people' manager. Ik denk ook nog steeds dat Renault er wel komt. Ze hebben hun aggregaat in ieder geval al super betrouwbaar en sneller gemaakt. Ze krijgen het chassis, in 2017, ook wel weer op de rit.
