Benzinedrukprobleem houdt Palmer lang aan de kant

Het wil dit seizoen maar niet vlotten bij debutant Jolyon Palmer. De Brit, die na een jaar lang testcoureur bij Lotus te zijn geweest werd gepromoveerd tot racecoureur heeft moeite om het tempo van teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen bij de benen en kent daarnaast veel pech. Ook in Hongarije kreeg Palmer te maken met een hardnekkig probleem dat ervoor zorgde dat hij slechts achttien rondjes kon rijden over beide trainingen.

Het team van Renault probeerde de humor erin te houden door te tweeten dat de Renault RS16 van Palmer er geen zin in had omdat er geen pokemon te vangen vielen op het circuit nabij Boedapest. Palmer zelf is minder blij: "Deze dag wil ik heel snel vergeten. Het scheelt dat ik het circuit ken uit mijn GP2-tijd, maar dit is natuurlijk niet fijn. Ik hoopte op een probleemloze dag na de vele pech die ik al gehad heb dit jaar, maar na een paar rondjes ging het al fout. Gelukkig hebben we de oorzaak kunnen vinden."

Palmer eindigde in beide trainingen achter zijn teamgenoot. De Britse rookie heeft nog geen WK-punten gescoord, teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen heeft Renault tot nu toe een keer punten bezorgd dankzij een zevende plaats in Rusland.
