Palmer wil ook volgend jaar voor Renault racen

Als Jolyon Palmer het voor het zeggen zou hebben bij het team van Renault, dan zou hij nog even wachten met het doorhakken van knopen over de line-up voor 2017. Teambaas Frederic Vasseur kondigde eerder aan in september een besluit te nemen. Palmer vindt dat Renault de huidige coureurs langer de tijd moet gunnen om zich te bewijzen.

"Ik voel me goed, want het gaat elk weekend beter en dat ziet het team ook", begint Palmer tegenover Autosport. "De eerste races waren misschien moeilijk, maar ik ben me steeds meer aan het ontwikkelen tot een complete rijder. Het team zal volgend jaar enorme progressie boeken en een grote sprong voorwaarts zetten. Daar wil ik bij zijn."

"Ik weet dat ik in staat ben om de gewenste prestaties te leveren. Als het team in me gelooft, kan ik dat in de toekomst laten zien. Veel teams weten nog niet wie hun stoeltjes zullen bemannen in 2017, tenzij ze over coureurs met langdurige contracten beschikken. Dat is bij ons niet het geval, we hoeven ons niet te haasten. De beslissing valt pas later in het seizoen."

"Als ik een baas bij Renault was, dan zou ik nu nog geen keuze maken. Ik zie de noodzaak gewoon niet. We concentreren ons op de vraag hoe we ons huidige pakket kunnen verbeteren en op de auto voor volgend jaar. Voor Renault is het beter dat ze Kevin Magnussen en mij over een langere periode beoordelen. Als ze tevreden zijn, hoeven ze niks te veranderen."

Ik heb begrepen dat Renault ook volgend jaar het oude lotus 2015 chassis als basis gaat gebruiken. Ik weet niet waar Palmer dan de "enorme" progressie vandaan wil halen, maar ik zie het nog niet gebeuren.

  Kan een vooruitgang zijn ten opzichte van nu. Misschien zijn ze een verkeerde weg ingeslagen dit jaar en zal de oude Lotus hen op de juiste weg brengen naar succes.

Arme Jolyon..hij zal als een Johnny Dumfries (Lotus 1986) de geschiedenisboeken ingaan...of eigenlijk nog slechter want volgens mij had Dumfries nog enkele puntjes in de eindstand.

  Stoffel plus Ocon, zou wel een leuke lineup zijn voor Renault. Palmer zit er nu alleen maar omdat ie geld mee brengt en omdat Renault nu per definitie geen grootse prestaties verwacht.
