Wehrlein zet Manor in Q2, Ocon heeft het lastig

Pascal Wehrlein heeft het wederom voor elkaar gekregen om zijn Manor in Q2 te wurmen. De DTM-kampioen van vorig jaar reed in Q1 een ijzersterke ronde en eindigde in die sessie als negende. In het tweede deel had Wehrlein het lastig waardoor de vijftiende startplaats zijn deel is. Debutant Esteban Ocon kende een lastige sessie en start als negentiende.

Wehrlein is enigzins teleurgesteld dat het in Q2 niet lukte om een snellere tijd te rijden: "Ik ben erg blij dat we het tweede deel van de kwalificatie weer gehaald hebben. Helaas hadden we geen nieuwe superzachte banden meer voor Q2 en dan weet je dat het lastig wordt. Ik kijk echter uit naar de race, wetende dat we op nieuwe banden erg competitief zijn. Het hele weekend loopt het al lekker en ik zie geen reden waarom we dat niet door kunnen trekken naar de race."

In de andere Manor zit sinds vrijdag het Franse talent Esteban Ocon. Ocon werd in 2014 Formule 3-kampioen door onder andere Max Verstappen te verslaan en pakte vorig jaar in extremis de titel in de GP3. Dit jaar reed hij al een aantal vrijdagtrainingen voor het team van Renault en dit combineerde hij met een zitje in de DTM bij Mercedes. Ocon kende gisteren een sterke opening, maar moet nog wennen aan zijn nieuwe werkomgeving.

Ocon geeft toe dat de kwalificatie behoorlijk zwaar voor hem was:
"Het was een lastige sessie. Ik ben blij met mijn snelheid in het algemeen, maar het blijft lastig om halverwege het seizoen in te stappen zonder de auto te hebben getest. Ik heb meer tijd nodig in de auto en ook moet ik wennen aan de superzachte banden en omgaan met verkeer. Ik heb meer ervaring nodig om ook in een kwalificatie het beste eruit te halen. Morgen ben ik de meest blije coureur op de grid, ik ga mijn Formule 1-debuut maken ! Morgen doorloop ik voor het eerste de hele cyclus van een race, ik kijk ernaar uit om een nette race te rijden en te genieten."

Prima toch dat hij er in moet komen? Ik ben blij dat er een nieuwe generatie aan de bak kan. Occon heeft volgend jaar al een half jaar ervaring en moet dan seinen.

  Jij ziet liever Button, Massa, Raikkonen, Alonso gaan als Erikson, Palmer, Magnussen, Kvyat????
  
  Ik niet. Er is ruimte zat voor talent (zoveel grote talenten zijn er niet), en er zijn genoeg plekken vrij om ook nog wat gevestigde namen in de formule 1 te houden.
  
  Overigens vind ik dat het voor Massa en/of Button wel tijd is om te stoppen, maar dat is meer omdat hun Carriëre gewoon mooi geweest is en er weinig meer in zit de aankomende jaren. Dat heeft niks met ruimte maken voor jonkies te maken.

  Ja trouwens als je naar Grand Prix gaat is het merendeel van het publiek 50+ of heel jong. Ik zie er nauwelijks jongeren rondlopen. F1 is ook een sport voor de wat oudere generatie...

  Ja, op dit forum wordt scoreboard journalistiek gebruikt om een mening te hebben over of een coureur goed is of niet. Echt lachen :). En of iemand het goed of slecht gedaan heeft. Gaat helemaal nergens over. En vaak ook afzeiken van coureurs als Kvyat en Sainz.
  
  Of opmerkingen over verjonging van de F1 dat zou dan weer 'bruisend' worden, maar als er mensen op hun werk ontslagen worden omdat ze 45+ zijn dan staan ze op hun achterste poten...:).

Zou wel heel fijn zijn als die oude coureurs gaan verdwijnen. Denk dat de F1 weer bruisend gaat worden met coureurs als Max , Ocon , Stoffel, Sainz
