Force India zit er prima bij na eerste trainingsdag

Force India gaat de race op het Circuit of the Americas in met een voorsprong van tien punten op concurrent Williams. De Brits-Indiase renstal lijkt na een prima openingsdag in Austin de goede papieren te hebben de vierde plek in het constructeurskampioenschap te verstevigen. Nico Hülkenberg reed een zesde tijd, Sergio Perez kwam tot een zevende tijd.

Nico Hülkenberg, die nog vier races rijdt voor Force India en volgend jaar voor Renault zal rijden spreekt van een normale vrijdag: "Het was een normale vrijdag en we begonnen het weekend zoals we dat graag wilden. We kenden geen problemen met de auto en konden veel ronden rijden. We kozen een iets andere benadering in het afstellen van de auto in de tweede sessie. Over de balans van de auto ben ik redelijk tevreden, daar valt nog wat winst te behalen. Het ziet er goed uit voor de rest van het weekend."

Sergio Perez kende in de andere VMJ09 een iets kortere vrijdag dan normaal, de Mexicaan moest zijn auto in de ochtend afstaan aan zijn landgenoot Alfonso Celis Jr. Ondanks de korte dag was Perez meteen op snelheid: "Voor mij was het een korte dag, maar de snelheid zat er meteen goed in. Ik ben tevreden met het werk wat we hebben kunnen doen. De auto voelt goed aan en we weten welke kant we op moeten met de afstelling."
