Sauber scoort eindelijk punten: "We hebben het gered!"

Naast Max Verstappen was Felipe Nasr de andere held van de knotsgekke Grand Prix van Brazilië. De Braziliaan scoorde twee punten in de armlastige C35, een ongelofelijke prestatie gezien het feit de Braziliaan van de een na laatste plaats aan de race begon. De opluchting bij Sauber is enorm.

Even leek het er dit jaar op dat Sauber het seizoen niet eens af kon maken vanwege grote financiële problemen. In de zomerstop werd de Zwitserse renstal gered door een groep investeerders en ging het langzaam beter. In de buurt van de punten kwam tot dusver alleen Marcus Ericsson dankzij een elfde plaats in Mexico. De twee punten die Nasr in Brazilië scoorde zijn enorm belangrijk omdat de renstal uit Hinwil nu niet meer laatste staat bij de constructeurs. Die twijfelachtige eer is nu toebedeeld aan het kleine Manor Racing.

Nasr is in de wolken met zijn prestatie:"Is dit echt ? Het lijkt wel een droom ! Dat we hier twee punten scoren is enorm belangrijk en ik vind het fantastisch dat ik dit voor mijn eigen publiek kon doen. Het was een erg lastige race, gelukkig heb ik de auto op de baan kunnen houden. Dit voelt als een zege al dacht ik dat het op een bepaald moment beter was de race helemaal te stoppen. De omstandigheden waren loodzwaar vandaag."

Ook teambazin Monisha Kaltenborn is blij met het resultaat, maar beseft ook dat Sauber nog een race te gaan heeft en Manor de renstal alsnog van een tiende plaats kan houden: "Er is nog een race te gaan, niets is nog zeker. Deze twee punten zijn echter het bewijs dat we als team de goede kant op gaan. We hadden geluk met de regen, in droge omstandigheden was het enorm moeilijk geweest dit resultaat te behalen. Felipe Nasr hield het hoofd koel en deze twee punten zijn de beloning. Het was enorm spannend, maar we hebben het gered!"

  idd, Ik hekel de manier van werken van Sauber en de hele mentaliteit, maar wel vet dat ze punten hebben. Principieel dat ik ben, vind ik dat Manor dan eigenlijk ook nog wel 2 puntjes verdienen mag. Sauber mag wel laatste worden, maar dan met punten graag.
