Toro Rosso-coureurs beleven slechtste kwalificatie van het jaar

Het team van Toro Rosso kent tot dusver een zeer moeizaam weekend op het Yas Marina Circuit. In de vrijdagtrainingen kreeg Daniil Kvyat twee keer te maken met een lekke band en daardoor miste zowel hij als teamgenoot Carlos Sainz de volledige tweede training. Het team werkte in de nacht hard om de problemen op te lossen, maar ook in de derde training kon er nauwelijks gereden worden. De gemiste baantijd had zijn weerslag op de kwalificatie: Toro Rosso beleefde haar slechtste kwalificatie van het jaar. Daniil Kvyat hield de schade met plek zeventien nog enigzins beperkt. Carlos Sainz kwam niet verder dan een 21e plaats.

Daniil Kvyat zal blij zijn dat het seizoen er na morgen op zit. De Rus kende veel pech sinds zijn overstap van grote broer Red Bull Racing naar Toro Rosso en ook in Abu Dhabi verloopt het tot dusver niet naar wens: "Na alle problemen die we gehad hebben is dit echt het maximale wat we konden. As ik naar mezelf kijk heb ik er het maximale uitgehaald. We reden nauwelijks in de trainingen en dan wordt de kwalificatie lastig. Ik ben blij dat de problemen nu opgelost zijn en hopelijk kunnen we morgen wat verder naar voren. We gaan zonder goede voorbereiding de race in, we zullen zien waar het schip strandt."

In de andere STR11 verging het Carlos Sainz niet veel beter. De Spanjaard kampte in de trainingen niet met lekke banden, maar miste wel de volledige tweede vrije training: "Om eerlijk te zijn, zijn dit de moeilijkste twee dagen geweest uit mijn tijd in de Formule 1. Dat doet pijn, ik wil het seizoen namelijk goed afsluiten en een probleemloos weekend helpt daarbij. Het team had moeite de problemen met de achterkant van de auto op te lossen. Als team hebben we hard gewerkt en de problemen lijken nu verleden tijd. Onze afstelling is nu niet optimaal, we hebben geen tijd gehad hier aan te werken. Ik ben nog nooit zo laag gestart in de Formule 1, hopelijk kan ik morgen een goede race rijden."

  Zolang het maar niet gaat sjeikregenen...
  
  Trouwens, ik las ergens dat er een voorstel ligt om na een SC de race stilstaand te hervatten. Ik kan me niet voorstellen dat ze dat gaan doen, een staande start kan best wel heel ingrijpend zijn voor het verloop van de race.

Tja als je bijna het hele weekend in de pitbox staat met problemen, dan is dat niet zo gek natuurlijk. Hopelijk gaat het goed morgen, maar op een SC situatie op het goeie moment zal ik ook niet spugen ;)

  Als Sainz echt zo goed is als hij denkt van zichzelf had hij aan 1 installatie ronde genoeg gehad om te knallen in Q1.

In 16 races bij Toro Rosso heeft Kvyat maar 4 puntjes binnengesleept. Sainz 10x zoveel in die periode. Zie daar hoeveel mededogen RedBull met deze Rus heeft.

  Hoeveel punten heb jij in je leven gescoord? Waar werk je eigenlijk? Welke baan heb je? Ik schat in dat je niet veel anders doet dan vele duizenden nog veel beter kunnen... Je snapt in elk geval niet veel van de F1 gezien je kritiek.

  Wederom beetje scorebord reactie. Ja Sainz reed Kvyat het snot voor de ogen in het begin. Maar wat een pech heeft hij ook gehad. Laatste races nog niet echt super. Maar qua snelheid doet hij het steeds beter ten opzichte van Sainz. Overstappen van team is nooit makkelijk. Ook niet voor Max. Die werd in het begin ook constant verslagen in de kwalficatie.

Schijnt dat door allerhande aanpassingen aan de achterwielophanging,, vanwege het lekkeband probleem,, de downforce verstoord is ....Dus dat wordt morgen (ook) helemaal niks..
