Ocon vond zijn ritme in tweede sessie in Australië

Het duurde even voordat Esteban Ocon op de baan verscheen tijdens de eerste officiële sessie van 2017. De jonge Fransman van Force India kon het eerste half uur van de eerste vrije training voor de Australische Grand Prix niet in actie komen. Remproblemen hinderden hem. Gelukkig voor hem kon hij in de tweede sessie een inhaalslag maken.

Ocon: "De start van de dag verliep niet best voor mij. Remproblemen zorgden ervoor dat mijn start vertraging opliep. In de middagsessie ging het makkelijker en slaagde ik erin een beter ritme te vinden. De prioriteit ligt nu bij het verkennen waar we nog wat moeten veranderen. Waar valt nog winst te boeken en waar kan ik me verbeteren? Hopelijk weten we in de derde en laatste vrije training een stap te zetten zodat we klaar zijn voor de kwalificatie."

Teamgenoot Sergio Perez beleefde een vlekkeloze dag. "Het is altijd belangrijk om het jaar zonder problemen te beginnen en veel kilometers te maken. Zoals gebruikelijk was de baan in eerste instantie nog glad en glibberig. Naarmate de dag vorderde, kwam er steeds meer grip. We hebben alle compounds uitgeprobeerd en veel data verzameld. Er zijn nog wat punten waar we meer performance vandaan kunnen halen en we weten waar we onze pijlen op moeten richten."
