Force India met twee puntenpakkers stevig op plek vier

De verhoudingen in de Formule 1 worden langzaam maar zeker steeds duidelijker. Mercedes en Ferrari voeren de boventoon, Red Bull Racing bevindt zich in een niemandsland en daarachter zitten meerdere teams heel dicht bij elkaar in de middenmoot. Force India, Williams, Scuderia Toro Rosso, Haas F1 Team en Renault geven elkaar geen duimbreed toe.

Toch is Force India erin geslaagd om de vierde plaats van vorig jaar te consolideren en al een aardige gat te slaan naar de overige middenmoters. Dat komt vooral door het rijdersduo. Sergio Perez en Esteban Ocon hebben in totaal al 31 punten bijeen geharkt en zijn beiden in elke race van dit seizoen tot nu toe in de punten gefinisht. Dat is een groot verschil met de concurrentie.

Bij Williams moet Felipe Massa voor de punten zorgen, Scuderia Toro Rosso leunt vooral op Carlos Sainz, Nico Hülkenberg is de enige puntenpakker bij Renault en bij Haas F1 Team is het wisselvalligheid troef. Perez: "Door onze strategie en onze goed uitgevoerde pitstops eindigen we op posities die we op de baan niet kunnen bereiken."

Force India kan echter niet achterover leunen en dat doet het ook niet. De Indiase renstal komt in Spanje met een pakket vernieuwingen. Vice-teambaas Bob Fernley verkondigde aan Auto Motor und Sport: "We staan vierde omdat wij onze kansen benut hebben en onze tegenstanders fouten hebben gemaakt. Dat gaan we niet eeuwig zo volhouden. Vanaf Barcelona moeten we op eigen kracht vierde in de pikorde zijn."

Het kan nog spannend worden wanneer de grote update van RB net zo bagger (voor de top dan) is als de auto die ze hebben ontwikkelt....dan moet RB zomaar naar achteren kijken.

  Als updates een auto niet beter maken, plakken ze die niet erop. Er is geen team dat hun auto 'zwakker' maakt. En neem maar van mij aan dat FI en Williams niet opeens een sec gaan winnen. Redbull zal dit jaar in niemandsland blijven rijden (op p5 en p6) met natuurlijk enkele uitzonderingen.

Ze gaan weer lekker, ook omdat ze dit jaar opnieuw prima bandenslijtage / tyre management hebben.
Ze doen mechanisch gezien toch iets goed jaar op jaar, wat ze opnieuw een voorsprong op Williams geeft met in de basis een aerodynamisch mindere auto tot aan Rusland.
De uitgebreide update aan vloer en vleugels in Spanje zal de onjuiste correlatie en daaruit voortgekomen aero stalling hopelijk eindelijk oplossen

  Hetgeen ze beter voor elkaar hebben als Williams is het rijdersduo. Als het opnieuw Bottas - Massa was geweest, had Williams ruim voorop gestaan. Maar de miljoenen telden.
