Esteban Ocon: "Monaco gaat een hele nieuwe ervaring worden"

Force India-coureur Esteban Ocon beleeft een geweldige start van het seizoen. Samen met teamgenoot Sergio Perez reed hij iedere race in de punten en daardoor staat het team ook vast op een vierde plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap. Ocon verzamelde 19 WK-punten en staat daarmee 8e en zijn beste resultaat was in Spanje met een uitstekende vijfde plaats.

Nieuwe ervaring

Meldt bijna iedere coureur dat ze uitkijken naar de Grand Prix van Monaco, zo niet Ocon. Hij woont gewoon nog in Frankrijk, maar kijkt er wel naar uit. "In Monaco racen gaat een hele nieuwe ervaring voor mij worden, want ik ben er nog nooit geweest", aldus de Fransman. "Het gaat een vreemde ervaring worden want het zo'n beroemd circuit en ik ken het uit mijn hoofd, maar het is altijd een andere ervaring als je er echt gaat rijden", zo zegt Ocon.

Gek op stratencircuits

Over de voorbereiding zegt hij: "Om klaar te zijn voor Monaco heb ik veel tijd in de simulator doorgebracht, maar ik moet nog steeds veel leren tijdens de trainingen op donderdag. Ik zal het stap voor stap moeten bekijken en zo langzaam richting de limiet gaan." Maar hij is vol zelfvertrouwen: "Normaal gesproken hou ik van stratencircuits dus ik ben er zeker van dat ik heel snel bij de les ben."
