Kevin Magnussen verrast door afwijkend Haas F1-contract met Romain Grosjean

Haas F1-coureur Kevin Magnussen heeft toegeven dat hij onaangenaam verrast was dat zijn contract afwijkt van dat van zijn teamgenoot Romain Grosjean. Hierdoor moet hij gedurende zes Grand Prix-weekenden tijdens de vrije trainingen op vrijdag zijn stoeltje afstaan aan Antonio Giovinazzi.

Tegen Speedweek zegt hij: "Ik wist niet dat mijn contract op dat punt afweek van dat van Grosjean. Ik dacht dat de contracten gelijk waren, dus toen ik de aanbieding kwam zei ik 'geen probleem'."

Giovinazzi neemt zeven keer plaats in de wagen en in zes van de gevallen is het Magnussen die plaats moet maken. Waarom Grosjean het anders heeft op laten nemen in zijn contract weet hij niet, maar hij heeft wel een vermoeden. "Ik denk dat Romain bij zijn vorige team Lotus een slechte ervaring op dit punt had omdat ze vaker zijn vrijdagen inkortte. Daarom was hij erg attent op dit punt in zijn contract", zo zegt de deen. "Het is geen ideale situatie, maar het zit mij niet dwars. Ik moet alleen wat verloren tijd goedmaken", zo sluit hij af.
