Sergey Sirotkin: "Renault prima in staat situatie zelf te beoordelen"

Sergey Sirotkin ontkent niet dat hij wel eens de coureur kon zijn die Jolyon Palmer gaat vervangen bij het team van Renault, mocht er afscheid worden genomen van de Brit. Dat hij graag het seizoen af wil maken is logisch, maar wacht rustig op de volgende stappen van Renault.

Er zijn veel speculaties over het stoeltje van Palmer. De Renault-coureur presteert niet en voor volgend seizoen doen de namen van Sergio Perez en Fernando Alonso de ronde als nieuwe collega van Nico Hülkenberg. Mocht Palmer al gedurende dit seizoen op een zijspoor worden gezet dan zou Sirotkin een plaats opschuiven.

Tegen het Russische Championat zegt Sirotkin: "Ik probeer niet te reageren op geruchten. Het is vervelend dat Jolyon nog niet de resultaten kan laten zien waartoe deze wagen in staat is. Maar hij werkt hard en probeert ook progressie te boeken."

Ontkennen dat hij wel eens de rijder naast Hülkenberg kan worden doet hij niet, maar zegt verder niets over die optie. "Het zou slecht voor hem zijn als ik bij politieke spelletjes wordt betrokken. Wij doen ons best en ik denk dat het team goed in staat is de hele situatie zelf te beoordelen", zo sluit hij af.
