Niki Lauda: "Het was vandaag weer zoals in die goede oude tijd"

Niki Lauda doet na de race zijn verhaal voor de camera van Sky Sports F1. Ted Kravitz noemt de zege van Hamilton 'a walk in the park'. 

Lauda: "Het was weer als die goede oude tijd", verwijzend naar de vorige drie seizoenen. Het is voor het team van Mercedes pas de eerste keer dit seizoen dat ze de eerste twee plaatsen op het podium pakken. "Maar dit raceweekend was perfect", zo vervolgt hij. 

Kravitz wijst op de problemen bij het team van Ferrari en dat Mercedes daar optimaal van geprofiteerd heeft. "Klopt, ze hadden gelijk bij de start al problemen en Vettel beschadigde zijn voorvleugel en ze kwamen eigenlijk nooit terug in de race. Maar toch wist Vettel nog P4 te bereiken", zo zegt de Oostenrijker. 

Maar hij heeft ook kritiek op Sergio Perez van Force India: "Perez was langzamer, als Ocon voorbij had kunnen komen hadden ze wellicht Vettel er nog achter kunnen houden. Dat was ook vanuit ons perspectief beter geweest."

    "Perez was langzamer, als Ocon voorbij had kunnen komen hadden ze wellicht Vettel er nog achter kunnen houden. Dat was ook vanuit ons perspectief beter geweest."

      Perez wil volgend jaar terug naar een top/fabrieksteam dus die gaat zijn teamgenoot echt niet voorbij laten. Daarbij is het toch knap dat hij met ongeveer 20 ronde oudere banden zijn teamgenoot achter zich houdt.

      Ik zeg ook niet dat dat geweldig was om naar te kijken, maar ik zeg alleen dat ik het niet zo geweldig vindt als een team Zo vreselijk sterk is en er ook nog blij mee is dat er niemand bij hun in de buurt kwam

      Dat is nou eenmaal zo in de F1, maar aan alles komt een eind, dus ook aan het Mercedes tijdperk.

      Nicos, het Schumacher tijdperk was anders. Ferrari was niet zo machtig als Mercedes de afgelopen 3 jaar was. Daarbij was het ergens specialer wat Schumacher deed, het had gewoon iets wat bij Hamilton/Mercedes niet was. Schumacher was in zijn hoogtijdagen gewoon geniaal en deed altijd alles goed, dat kan Hamilton niet zeggen.

    De oude Lauda, altijd goed voor een rake uitspraak ;-) Maar geniet er maar van want het kan snel afgelopen zijn die "goede oude tijd".

    Perez had vele oudere banden maar was gewoon beter als Ocon.

    Verstappen, Hamilton, Alonso of Vettel hadden hun teamgenoot ook niet voorbij gelaten in dezelfde situatie.

      Beter dan.

      En nee. Ocon reed vlak achter Perez voor de pitstops, reed veel langer door om vervolgens na de pitstop weer vrij vlot aan te sluiten. Als Perez beter was geweest dan had hij minstens 1 keer Ricciardo aan gevallen.

      En Verstappen, Hamilton, Alonso of Vettel hadden dan ook een potentiële P3 verkloot.

      Ocon was niet sneller. Hij had de betere strategie want Perez zat vast achter Ricciardo.
      Ocon had hem ook niet ingehaald want hij kan Perez ook niet inhale. Waarom zou hij dan wel Ricciardo kunnen inhalen die langzamer is.

      Naar welke race heb jij gekeken F1F? Ocon was wel degelijk sneller en hij gaat Perez in de volgende races gewoon opzij zetten. Kwestie van tijd net als bij RBR.

      Ocon heeft te lang beleefd gewacht. Als hij ervoor was gegaan toen zijn banden nog optimaal waren, was het hem waarschijnlijk gelukt. Ben benieuwd naar de tweede ronde van deze strijd.

    Moet je Force India misschien ook de mogelijkheid geven om Oli... uhm meer vermogen te gebruiken als ze dat willen.

      Ik ben best tevreden met de uitslag, allen jammer dat Max de strijd vroegtijdig moest staken. Niet iedereen is Ferrari fan.;)

    Na het wegvallen van Vettel en wederom een tachtische blunder van Ferrari was het wel heel makkelijk voor Mercedes. Al denk ik dat Hamilton de race ook wel had gewonnen als Vettel geen problemen had gehad met de voorvleugel, Vettel was wel tweede geworden denk ik. Ocon had op het podium kunnen staan als ze een teamorder hadden gegeven aan Perez, hij was echt sneller.

      Teamorder was gegeven. Perez werd zelfs beloofd dat Ocon zn plek terug zou geven als hij RIC niet kon passeren maar Perez had er geen zin an.
