Haas F1 maakt in kwalificatie gebruik van spotters

Haas F1 Team haalt een Amerikaans fenomeen naar de Formule 1. De renstal doet tijdens de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Azerbeidzjan dit weekend een beroep op 'spotters'. Engineers van het team nemen posities in op strategische punten langs de baan in Bakoe om de gebeurtenissen tijdens de sessie te volgen en feedback te geven aan het team.

Aan de hand van die informatie kan Haas F1 beter bepalen wanneer het coureurs Kevin Magnussen en Romain Grosjean de baan op moet sturen om zo het potentieel van de auto optimaal te benutten. Spotters zijn in de IndyCar Series de gewoonste zaak van de wereld, maar in de Formule 1 maakte iedereen tot nu toe enkel gebruik van televisiebeelden en GPS-data.

Is Haas F1 een trendsetter? Teambaas Günther Steiner: "Het gaat erom dat mensen langs de baan ons vertellen wat de overige auto's aan het doen zijn. Het is ook een manier om informatie te verzamelen over hoe anderen hun banden opwarmen, wie bezig is aan een langzame ronde, wie zich prepareert voor een snelle ronde. Zo kunnen we onze rijders beter bijstaan."

Nieuwe achtervleugel

Haas F1 Team beschikt niet alleen over spotters, maar ook over een aantal nieuwe onderdelen. "We hebben diverse zichtbare updates, met name voor de achtervleugel. Deze achtervleugel zou ons een betere balans op dit circuit moeten geven, maar waarschijnlijk werkt hij ook vrij goed op de volgende circuits", aldus Steiner.

Beetje flauwekul.... Kan zelfs thuis precies zien waar iedereen rijdt , inclusief de tijden eventueel gele vlaggen, of er iemand van de baan is (geweest) etc etc ..... neem ik aan dat teams nog veel beter middelen hebben (mag ik hopen) dan ik met mijn ipad en PC....

  Ik zou in elke bocht iemand neerzetten die live kan roepen wat er gebeurt (remfout, stuurfout, gereden lijnen bij in gevecht zijn, enz) en die alles filmt in slow-motion zodat je kunt analyseren waar de concurrent tijd wint/verliest (in combinatie met meer/minder vleugel). Hier valt nog heel veel winst te behalen. De meeste coureurs bestuderen toch ook eerder verreden races.

  Precies, en dat 'spotten' komt ook van het oval-racen en feitelijk uit een tijd dat er nog niet op elke vierkante meter een camera stond, laat staan real-time data van elke auto zoals tegenwoordig.... Leuk verzonnen van Steiner om het in de F1 te introduceren, maar echt bullshit....

Die staan al jaren langs de baan, voor het gemak hebben ze deze mensen een camera in handen geduwd en die beelden voor iedereen beschikbaar gemaakt.

  HaasF1 heeft geen subscription op SkyF1 ;-) het zijn amerikanen, Gene wil geen engelse zenders in zijn Amerikaanse stal...
  Die wachten tot Liberty Media de uitzendrechten hebben overgenomen ;-) dus tot die tijd zitten ze aan spotters vast.
