Valtteri Bottas: "Jammer dat Daniel te ver weg was"

Valtteri Bottas beleefde net zoals eigenlijk alle coureurs tijdens de Grand Prix in Baku, een knotsgekke race. Na een vroege touché met Kimi Raikkonen in bocht 2, liep de Fin een lekke band op en volgde een lange weg naar de pits op het 6 kilometer lange circuit. Bottas liep uiteindelijk een ronde achterstand op, maar mocht tijdens een van de vele Safety Car periodes zich ontdoen van de ronde achterstand ontdoen. Uiteindelijk volgde daarna een lange weg richting het podium, waarbij hij onder andere Ocon voorbij moest die stevig verdedigde. Uiteindelijk reed hij de laatste ronden van de race in de achtervolging op Lance Stroll, om de Canadees op de streep te passeren voor P2.

Bottas kon zelf ook niet geloven dat hij nog 18 punten overhield aan de race: "Zoals Daniel al zei, echt een knotsgekke race. Door de Safety Car kon ik die ronde achterstand terugpakken. Dit laat eigenlijk zien dat je nooit op moet geven, je weet nooit wat er nog gaat gebeuren. Maar we hebben als team een hele goede job geleverd. Uiteindelijk was het jammer dat Daniel nog te ver weg was."

Over het akkefietje met Raikkonen zei Bottas: "Bij bocht twee zat ik aan de binnenkant en ik had geen ruimte en mijn enige optie was om over de kerb te rijden en dan weet je dat de auto omhoogkomt en dat hij onbestuurbaar is. Ongelukkig dat dat weer met Kimi gebeurd."

En wat een belachelijke regel is het eigenlijk dat auto,s op een ronde tijdens een sc weer er voorbij mogen.
Daardoor komt hij nog op het podium ook.

Raar dat hij geen straf kreeg voor zijn botsing met Kimi.
En wat een belachelijke regel is het eigenlijk dat auto,s op een ronde tijdens een sc weer er voorbij mogen.
Daardoor komt hij nog op het podium ook.

  Ze praten over lucky Ricciardo , maar iemand die ik deze keer liever niet op het podium , en zelfs tweede gachot, had zien staan was wel Bottas.
