Ocon voelt zich niet aangesproken: "Niet alleen mijn fout"

Force India-coureur Esteban Ocon gaat zijn manier van racen niet veranderen nu teamgenoot Sergio Perez zijn ongenoegen over het rijgedrag van de Fransman heeft uitgesproken. Volgens de Mexicaan moet Ocon nog leren wat racen inhoudt. De onvrede van Perez komt voort uit de aanrijding tussen de twee in de Azerbeidzjaanse Grand Prix, waar hij zijn stalgenoot voor verantwoordelijk houdt.

Ocon is van mening dat ze allebei schuld hadden aan het incident. "Na de race in Bakoe zijn we naar Silverstone gevlogen om het voorval samen met het team terug te kijken. Ze hebben aantekeningen gemaakt van wat ze dachten en we kwamen tot de conclusie dat het 50-50 was. Het was niet alleen mijn fout, het was niet alleen de fout van Sergio, we waren allebei fout. Hij deed dingen die niet juist waren en ik ook, dus het was een race-incident."

"Ik ga mijn attitude hierdoor niet aanpassen. Mijn aanpak werkt al sinds het begin van het jaar goed voor het team en de manier waarop we werken. Het enige dat wij als rijders moeten veranderen is wat voorzichtiger zijn onder het racen. We blijven vrij racen en de competitie tussen ons zal de rest van het seizoen nog wel duren, zeker aangezien ik meer ervaring opdoe en straks op circuits kom die ik al ken. Maar we moeten het wel fair houden."

"We hadden deze week een evenement bij sponsor BWT, we spraken normaal met elkaar en er zijn niet meer spanningen dan voorheen. We moeten professioneel blijven en goed werk afleveren. Ik ben nergens bang voor, ik ben competitief ingesteld. Ik voel niet dat ik nog moet bewijzen dat ik mijn plek in de Formule 1 moet verdienen. Het gaat lekker, ik scoor bijna elke race punten en het team is tevreden over mijn performance, dus ik voel geen druk."

Ocon heeft dezelfde attitude als Verstappen, trekt zich weinig aan van wat de ervaren mannen roepen... die roepen al snel als de jonge honden angstaanjagend dichtbij komen.
