Jolyon Palmer hoopt pechreeks in Hongarije te beëindigen

Jolyon Palmer maakt geen al te best tweede seizoen mee in de Formule 1 en het gonst van de geruchten over de toekomst van de GP2-kampioen van 2014. Mogelijk wordt Hongarije de laatste race van de Brit, die na een jaar als reservecoureur bij Lotus, vorig jaar zijn debuut maakte als racecoureur in de Formule 1.

Ook in 2016 kwam Palmer moeizaam op gang, maar na de zomerstop bood hij zijn toenmalige teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen aardig partij. Renault besloot Palmer het voordeel van de twijfel te geven en verlengde zijn contract met een jaar. Na negen races staat de teller qua punten nog altijd op nul, terwijl teamgenoot Hülkenberg er 26 heeft.

Palmer beseft dat hij aan de bak moet om zijn stoeltje voor de rest van het seizoen veilig te stellen, maar kende ook veel pech. In zijn thuisrace op Silverstone viel de Renault van Palmer al in de opwarmronde stil. Ook in andere weekenden kende Palmer veel technische maleur. Palmer hoopt dat het nu over is met de pech en mikt op punten voor de Grand Prix van Hongarije.

"Het moet een keer gedaan zijn met de pech, je wordt er als coureur moedeloos van. Ik denk dat ik al mijn pech nu wel heb gehad en vanaf Hongarije moet het beter gaan. Vorig jaar scoorde ik bijna mijn eerste punt op de Hungaroring en ook in de GP2 kende ik goede races. De updates op onze auto hebben het pakket sterker gemaakt en wanneer we ons in de top tien of dicht daar tegen aan kwalificeren dan moeten punten mogelijk zijn", aldus een strijdvaardige Jolyon Palmer.

Zeer sympathieke vent. Ik zeg laat hem het seizoen uitrijden. Kan heus wel wat. Heeft minimaal dezelfde portie pech gehad als Max

Palmer krijgt in Hongarije ook beschikking over de nieuwe vloer, waarmee Hulkenberg op Silverstone de pannen van het dak reed. Aangezien Jolyon regelmatig op p11 finished zou een puntje toch minimaal mogelijk moeten zijn. Àls hij finished uiteraard...

Overigens denk ik niet dat wel/geen punten veel uitmaakt voor zijn toekomst

  Door wie vervangen? Door alonso dan stoppen ze weer die fransen zijn ze zwaar gedemotiveerd. Palmer doet t best zo. Komt door renault noets anders

  Kubica, Alonso, Buemi, Sirotkin, Nasr zijn zomaar een paar namen welke mogelijk zouden kunnen zijn.
  
  Als kanttekening uiteraard dat Kubica geen fysieke beperkingen kent, en ik niet denk dat Sirotkin een verbetering is.

Ja het feit dat hij geen punt heeft gescoord komt doordat zijn auto hem constant in de steek liet. Ja en van de week zag ik een vliegende varken.
