Zonder drie topteams; 7 winnaars in 12 Grands Prix

Hoe spannend zou de Formule 1 zijn als Mercedes, Ferrari en Red Bull Racing niet mee zouden doen? Die vraag stelde Motorsport-Total.com zichzelf en dus besloten ze de uitslagen van de drie topteams van dit seizoen te schrappen om te kijken welke effecten dat zou hebben.

Zoals te verwachten viel zou Force India dan het kampioenschap aanvoeren. De Indiase renstal is dit jaar duidelijk de beste van de rest achter Mercedes, Ferrari en Red Bull Racing. Bovendien beschikt Force India met Esteban Ocon en Sergio Perez over twee rijders die geregeld in de punten eindigen.

Perez zou koploper zijn in het kampioenschap met 180 punten. Ocon volgt op de tweede plaats met elf punten achterstand. Carlos Sainz en Nico Hülkenberg delen de derde plaats met ieder 127 punten. Bij de constructeurs leidt Force India (349 punten) voor Williams (188 punten).

Opvallender is dat zeven verschillende coureurs minstens één race zouden hebben gewonnen in de eerste twaalf Grands Prix van 2017. Perez, Sainz, Hülkenberg, Felipe Massa, Romain Grosjean, Lance Stroll en Fernando Alonso zouden de zeges verdeeld hebben, in plaats van de vier verschillende winnaars die er nu zijn geweest (Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo).

Wat een heerlijke spannende competitie zouden we dan hebben gehad. Qua budgetten zitten deze teams ook relatief dicht bij elkaar. Uitgezonderd McLaren maar dat probleem kent een ieder.

Misschien toch meer onderdelen standaardiseren of een budget plafond instellen (deze zal ik dan niet op de salarissen van de coureurs van toepassing laten zijn, zodat de topteams zich nog wel met de topcoureurs kunnen onderscheiden) maar dat de ontwikkelingen wel eerlijker gaan verlopen.

Als alleen Ferrari en Mercedes niet meegedaan zouden hebben dan had Max 5 keer gewonnen van de 6 keer dat hij finishte.

Waarschijnlijk zou hij echter 7 keer hebben gewonnen want in Monaco zat hij achter Bottas en werd om strategische redenen te vroeg gepit, in Spanje veroorzaakte Bottas een botsing. Zonder Bottas had Max die beide gewonnen.

Ricciardo zou alle andere races gewonnen hebben, dus 7 volgens de punten, en 5 zonder het Bottas effect.
Hoe dan ook maar 2 winnaars van 1 team.
Red Bull is echt een maatje te groot voor de rest.

Budget terzijde, geen team dat met een Renault motor rijdt kan als topteam aangemerkt worden.
