Helmut Marko: "Juiste keuze om hier gridstraffen te pakken"

Op een circuit dat op papier de moeilijkste op de kalender is voor Red Bull Racing, schitterde de Oostenrijkse renstal in de verregende kwalificatie. Max Verstappen leek de kwalificatie als snelste te gaan afsluiten, ware het niet dat Mercedes-coureur in zijn laatste poging een perfecte ronde neerzette en een seconde sneller was dan de Nederlander. Ondanks de goede kwalificatie starten beide Red Bull-coureurs vanmiddag vanuit de achterhoede, vanwege meerdere straffen wegens het wisselen van motoronderdelen.

Ondanks de matige uitgangspositie voor de race staat Red Bull-adviseur dr.Helmut Marko achter het besluit van zijn team om op Monza straffen te incasseren. Volgens Marko is de snelle omloop nabij Milaan de kleinste kans voor zijn coureurs om een topresultaat te halen. Marko verwacht meer van de races in Singapore, Maleisië en Japan.

"Natuurlijk is het frustrerend om uitgerekend nu onze beste kwalificatie van het seizoen te rijden, zeker wanneer je bekijkt met hoe weinig vleugel we in de regen reden. De auto's van Max Verstappen en Daniel Ricciardo gleden alle kanten op, maar toch haalden we er hele sterke rondes uit. Dit laat zien hoeveel potentie er in de RB13 zit. We hebben ook geen spijt van het feit dat we hier straffen kregen voor het wisselen van motoren, omdat Suzuka, Marina Bay Circuit en Sepang ons veel beter gezind zijn. Daar moeten we onze kansen pakken", aldus Marko in gesprek met Autosport.

De tweede plaats in de kwalificatie betekende een evenaring van het beste kwalificatieresultaat van Max Verstappen. De jonge Nederlander verloor het record voor jongste coureur op de eerste rij aan Lance Stroll. Stroll is met zijn 18 jaar de jongste coureur ooit die een Grand Prix vanaf de eerste rij mag starten.

Het is niet te hopen dat die vervloekte Renault motor er weer aangaat. Dan maakt het niks uit waar je de straf neemt, vraag maar aan McLaren. Maar een mooie uitslag van de training.Nu maar hopen dat de weergoden Max toch meezitten vandaag, wat er niet uitziet jammer genoeg.

  Als het motortje vandaag weer kapot gaat staat de deur wagenwijd open voor Max om bij andere teams te gaan winkelen. Contract of niet, dat zal niemand hem meer kwalijk nemen :))

Alsof Max geïnteresseerd is in P5 ,, hij zal het leuk vinden als er een beetje geraced en ingehaald kan worden maar alles minder dan een podiumplek interesseert hem geen moer... Balen dat het mooi weer is....

Blijf het apart vinden...nu Brawn er over begonnen durven opeens meerdere mensen in de F1 erover te beginnen. Terwijl dat van die gridstraffen toch al een paar jaar bezig is.
