Bob Fernley: "Wij doen er alles aan beide coureurs te behouden"

Vice-teambaas van Force India, Bob Fernley, zegt dat de renstal er alles aan doet om beide coureurs ook voor volgend jaar vast te leggen. Ondanks dat Esteban Ocon en Sergio Perez meerdere malen met elkaar op de baan in aanraking kwamen blijft dit toch het gewenste duo voor 2018 is.

Fernley: "Wij zullen ons van onze kant volledig inzetten om ze allebei voor ons team te behouden, dat is ons doel en dat staat niet ter discussie." Maar hij realiseert zich ook dat je niet alles in de hand heeft: "De markt voor coureurs blijft de markt voor coureurs en is het ook prima dat Checo's manager naar andere opties kijkt." Fernley houdt het team scherp en het is ook zijn baan om Perez zo goed mogelijk te begeleiden zo is de mening van de vice-teambaas.

Over de eerdere problemen tussen Perez en Ocon zegt hij: "Het is een enorm spannend koppel en misschien wel moeilijk om onder te controle te houden. Maar dat probleem heb ik er graag bij."

Force India heeft inmiddels een akkoord bereikt met Perez, maar voordat het contract getekend kan worden moet er ook nog overeenstemming met zijn Mexicaanse sponsors worden bereikt.
