Lando Norris debuteert in Abu Dhabi in de Formule 2

Lando Norris zal over een kleine twee weken zijn debuut maken in de Formule 2. In het voorprogramma van de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi op Yas Marina Circuit zal de jonge Brit ervaring opdoen namens het team van Campos Racing. Met het oog op volgend jaar, wanneer de Europees kampioen Formule 3 fulltime in de Formule 2 wil racen, is dat zeer welkom.

Norris: "Na het winnen van de titel in het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3 in mijn eerste poging dit jaar maak ik voor 2018 de stap naar de Formule 2 of de Super Formula om mijn doel om ooit in de Formule 1 te racen te verwezenlijken. De mogelijkheid om in Abu Dhabi in de Formule 2 te debuteren is dan ook een bonus, ongeacht welke keuze ik zal maken. Het wordt de eerste keer dat ik rij in een klasse waarin een pitstop verplicht is, dat is een compleet nieuwe ervaring voor mij."

"Komend weekend sluit ik mijn Formule 3-periode af. Het is een fantastisch jaar geweest en het zou geweldig zijn om dat te bekronen met winst in de Macau Grand Prix. Er is daar geen enkele ruimte voor fouten, zoals ik vorig jaar in de kwalificatie aan den lijve ondervond. Ik reis dit keer echter met veel meer vertrouwen af naar Macau. Het team heeft zich verbeterd, we hebben goed gepresteerd op andere stratencircuits en ik kan niet wachten om weer in Macau te racen."

Norris viert vandaag ook nog zijn verjaardag. De Brit blaast 18 kaarsjes uit op zijn verjaardagstaart. Volgend jaar schuift hij door van de rol van testrijder naar de positie van reservecoureur bij McLaren. De felicitaties gaan uit naar de jarige Norris.

  Sorry hoor ik moet het allemaal nog maar zien met al deze potentiele toppers (vergeet je trouwens Vandoorne niet?). Of Verstappen de verwachtingen waar gaat maken, geen idee. Of Norris daadwerkelijk zo een talent is!? En Ocon? En Leclerc? We gaan het meemaken. Het worden interessante jaren!

  dat is voorlopig nergens op gebaseerd, Norris had veel minder tegenstand dan Max en Ocon in de F3 en won ook nog minder races dan Max.

  zeer voorbarig van Ocon en Verstappen kan je toch al iets meer zeggen, Stoffel komt er wel en Stroll geeft zeker het potentieel (en de backing ook niet onbelangrijk) maar in Interlagos kwamen toch wel weer veel pijnpunten naar boven me dukt.
  
  Wat de nieuwe garde betreft; Leclerc maakt bij vlagen indruk en ja ik zie ook wel wat anderen zien, word zeker interessant hoe hij het volgend seizoen doet (wss tov Ericsson), Norris is zeer premature eerst eens zien hoe hij doet in de F2 komend seizoen.

Norris zal volgend seizoen vast wel in de F2 racen, dan kan hij de circuits alvast leren kennen en kan hij de rest van het weekend bij Mclaren aanwezig zijn om te leren.
