Bandentest geannuleerd uit angst over de veiligheid

Bandenleverancier Pirelli en het team van McLaren zouden deze week de handen ineen slaan voor een testsessie op het circuit van Interlagos in Sao Paulo, maar die bandentest is geschrapt uit angst over de veiligheid. Dat heeft Pirelli bekendgemaakt.

De veiligheid in Brazilië was afgelopen weekend een heikel punt. Er vonden aanvallen plaats op medewerkers van Mercedes, Williams, Sauber, Pirelli en de internationale autosportbond FIA. Pirelli en McLaren nemen nu het zekere voor het onzekere en testen niet op Interlagos. De veiligheid van het personeel van de bandenleverancier en het team kan niet gewaarborgd worden.

Dat is spijtig nieuws voor Lando Norris. De 18-jarige Brit was opgeroepen om dinsdag en woensdag de testwerkzaamheden in Brazilië voor zijn rekening te nemen, maar in plaats daarvan is hij nu alvast onderweg naar Macau voor de beroemde Formule 3-race in de Chinese gokstad van komend weekend.

Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media heeft nog niet gereageerd op de ontwikkelingen in Brazilië. Het mediabedrijf heeft altijd de mond vol over een mooie show, maar als er iets misgaat houden ze zich gedeisd. De druk op de organisatie van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix zal nu wel flink oplopen en Liberty moet vroeg of laat toch stelling nemen.

Er zijn tegenwoordig genoeg circuits die graag een Grand Prix organiseren en Argentinië is een prima alternatief voor Brazilië als men in Sao Paulo niet bereid is drastische maatregelen te nemen. Volkomen logisch en terecht. En met een burgemeester die het allemaal wel mee vindt vallen (er gebeuren wel ergere dingen in de wereld volgens dit dwaallicht) zie ik weinig toekomst voor de Braziliaanse GP.
Reken maar dat hier door de teams onderling over gaat worden gesproken om druk te zetten op Liberty. Niet meer gaan is een optie.

  Ik denk dat dat wel mee zal vallen. Het is het ook gewoon het grote geld dat de dienst uit maakt.
  
  Het WK Voetbal bijv. Ze gaan er gewoon heen terwijl ze weten dat de veiligheid een issue is... Om maar even een voorbeeld te noemen.
  
  Echter ; ik ben het met je eens hoor. Als dit de de norm in Brazilië is , dan kun je beter zo'n land links laten liggen.

  Kun je me uitleggen wat LM dan precies hieraan kan doen?
  De risico's in Sao Paulo zijn al jarenlang bekend. Er zijn ieder jaar wel enkele overvallen geprobeerd, maar hierbij zijn tot nu toe iedere keer de medewerkers kunnen ontsnappen. Het was een kwestie van tijd voordat een team een keer niet kon ontsnappen.
  
  Zoek eens op criminaliteit in Sao Paulo op internet. Kijk eens naar de veiligheidsmaatregelen die door Brazilie zijn getroffen bij de Olympische spelen.
  Dat de burgemeester dit allemaal wel mee vond vallen, komt meer omdat dit voor de burgemeester gewoon de dagelijkse gang van zaken is. Dit is het voor ons en de F1-teams natuurlijk niet, dus voor ons is de impact even stukken groter.
  De burgemeester wordt dagelijks dood geslingerd met rapporten over dit soort gevallen. Dan zijn 1 gelukte en 3 mislukte overvallen gewoon onderdeel van de statistieken.

  Helemaal eens. Schrijf dan een column als je deze ambities hebt als schrijver. Daarnaast betwijfel ik deze conclusie ook nog eens. Ik vind Liberty tot op heden redelijk transparant over komen.

  Het zou op zich prima journalistiek zijn als ze ook zouden aantonen in het artikel dat die zin op de waarheid berust. De bijbehorende feiten missen. De complete onderbouwing ontbreekt en dat is onverantwoordelijke berichtgeving en zeer onprofessioneel.
