Lando Norris neemt volgend jaar veel hooi op zijn vork

Talent Lando Norris krijgt in 2018 meer dan genoeg op zijn bordje. Dat vermoeden heeft McLaren-directeur Eric Boullier. Norris veroverde dit jaar de titel in het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3. Komend seizoen is de jonge Brit te bewonderen in de Formule 2.

Dat combineert hij met de werkzaamheden van reserverijder bij McLaren. Boullier deelde aan Formula1.com mede: "Ik hoop dat Lando ooit voor McLaren racet, dat is de reden geweest om hem aan ons te binden. Maar eerst komt de Formule 2, een goede sportieve uitdaging voor hem."

Norris maakte in Abu Dhabi reeds zijn debuut in het voorportaal van de Formule 1. Dat was toch een moeizame kennismaking, gaf hij naderhand toe. De 18-jarige Brit hoopte volgend jaar ook wat vrijdagtrainingen namens McLaren voor zijn rekening te nemen.

Boullier acht dat niet verstandig. "Hij zal veel tijd in de simulator spenderen en hij krijgt de mogelijkheid om te testen. Hij was ook aan het pushen om enkele vrije trainingen bij Grands Prix te doen, maar daar ben ik geen voorstander van. Hij krijgt het al druk genoeg."
